Abstract: This paper proposed a method to predict the inkjet printing area based on pixel clustering of 1-bit tiff image. For the selected printing equipment and ink, firstly, use the micro measuring system to obtain the single ink radius, then read the 1-bit tiff image with each gray level, separate into more subtle grids and calculate the distances from each tiny grid to the center of the pixel with a value of 0, and then determine whether the grid is inked based on whether the distances calculated is shorter than the ink dot radius, finally, count the dot area by calculating the percentage of inked grids. The experimental results show that applying this method to forecast the dot area of inkjet plate, the forecasting error can meet the accuracy requirements of printing plate dot detection, the speed increases, and the operation error that may exist in the process of manual measurement is avoided. All in all, the method is beneficial to achieving linear correction of dot area fast and accurately.
