Abstract: The promotion of organic peroxides on photopolymerization of epoxy resin was examined using iron arene complex as initiators. The activity was dependent upon the oxidability and concentration of the peroxide and it decreases in the order of: benzoyl peroxide(BPO)>bis(α-phenoxyethyl) peroxydicarbonate(BPPD)>dicumyl peroxide(DCP). By promoting the complexation of iron arene cation with epoxides and the ring opening of epoxides, the peroxides could decrease the polymerizing temperature and increase the polymerization rate. However, overdose of the peroxides and too high intensity of light were undesirable.
