Abstract: A series of novel water-soluble styrylvinylcyanine dyes were synthesized by the condensation reaction of 2-methyl -3-propane sulfonic acid-β-naphthathiazole and cinnamaldehyde or o-nitrocinnamaldehyde. It was found that the reaction could be catalyzed by organic base such as triethylamine. UV/vis Spectra of the dyes were studied preliminarily. The result showed that UV absorption of dyes had less maxium molar absorption coefficient.
