Abstract: The ZnO nanoparticles have been made by precipitation method, and the hydroxypropylcellulose(HPC)was used as protective agent.TEM,XRD,UV-Vis and PL were used to characterize the ZnO nanoparticles. The forming mechanism of ZnO particles and the reaction effect factors were also discussed.Photodegradation of Rhodamine B in aqueous solution was investigated by using the ZnO particles as a photocatalyst. The results show that the ZnO particle is a good photocatalyst for degradation of dye solution. It will have potential applications in many areas such as environment protection.

Key words: zinc oxide nanoparticles, surfactant, photocatalysis
