Abstract: Three UV-curing ureido pyrimidine (UPy-PEG) monomers with different molecular weight were prepared by addition reaction, and UV-curable imidazole ionic liquid (IMAA) was also synthesized. Three UV-curable ionic liquid-ureido pyrimidone (IMAA-UPy-PEG) monomers were prepared by mixing two kinds of monomers. The system had low volume shrinkage with IMAA-UPy-PEG added to the UV curable epoxy acrylic resin. The synthesis of IMAA and UPy-PEG were confirmed by 1HNMR spectroscopy. Homogeneous mixed monomers can be obtained by mixing UPy-PEG and IMAA and ultrasound in the ice bath. Real-time Fourier Transform Infrared (RT-FTIR) confirmed that the mixed monomers all had high photopolymerization rate. The maximum shrinkage of the formulations decreased from 5.33% to about 4.81% when the addition of the mixed monomer increasing from 10% to 30%. Compared with the commercial monomer HEMA, the formulations with mixed monomer all have lower volume shrinkage, with the shrinkage decreased to 2.6%. The test of the properties of UV-curable coatings showed that the hardness and gloss of the coating films decreased with the addition of the mixed monomer, but are within the scope of use.
