Research on Optical System of Shaped Surface Applied to Navigation Aid System

Abstract: Asymmetric photometric system technology can realize the collection and redistribution of light energy, which has been widely used in the field of illumination. Free-form surface illumination optical design based on non-imaging optical theory has the advantages of small size, high design freedom, accurate and controllable light pattern. By using a free-form surface to properly change the light distribution of the LED, green lighting can be realized, which indicates a new direction for the development of the future lighting industry. In this paper, through the research on LED free-form optics design, a design method of free-form surface lens that satisfies the side-light illumination mode is proposed. The obtained free-form lens solid model is taken as the basic structure of the elevated taxiway edge light lens design. Simulation and experimental results show that the light intensity distribution requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the elevated taxiway edge light can be achieved with only one LED light source.
