Abstract: A ligand containing open-chain crown ether Schiff base, N, N’-bis(salicylidene)-3,6-dioxa-1, 8-diaminooctane (H2L), was synthesized. Its fluorescent properties in various organic solvents and the presence of transition metallic ions (Zn2+, Cd2+, Cu2+ and Ni2+) were investigated in detail. The effects of different solvents and the transition metallic ions on the fluorescent spectra of the ligand were discussed. The results show that solvents and prescence of transition metallic ions have great influence on the fluorescent property of the ligand. The weaker the solvent polarity is, the stronger the fluorescent intensity changes, and the fluorescence peak is blue-shifted. The prescence of Zn2+ and Cd2+ can enhance the fluorescent intensity of the ligand, but the prescence of Cu2+ and Ni2+ can quench its fluorescence. The effect of pH on the interaction of transition ions with the ligand was investigated, and the optimal pH value is 7—8.
