Abstract: On the base of studying on the adsorption of sensitizing dye and antihalation dyes on silver halide crystals with UV-spectrum, we focused on the effects of antihalation dyes on the formation of J-aggregates of the sensitizing dye and emulsions’ sensitivity. It was found that antihalation dyes had different adsorption on silver halide crystals due to their different structures. The stronger the adsorption of antihalation dyes the more effects on J-aggregates formation of sensitizing dyes.Sensitizing dye could increase emulsions’ sensitivity by being adsorbed on silver halide crystals and forming J-aggregates,so those antihalation dyes with less adsorption have less effect on the spectral sensitivity, while antihalation dyes with stronger adsorption could inhibit or destroy the spectral sensitivity, especially when they were added before sensitizing dye.A good antihalation dye was one that had weak adsorption on silver chloride crystals.
