Abstract: Hypocrellin A and B were studied as sensitizers of excited state molecular oxygen. Our results indicate that the solvent polarizability and excitation wavelength have no effect on the quantum yield of singlet oxygen when Hypocrellins was used as the sensitizers. Also, we found out that the chemical reactivity of Hypocrellins is from both first and second excited state molecular oxygen. Finally, our results indicate that Hypocrellin is a poor singlet oxygen quencher.
