The granularity of both the dye image and its associated silver image of Monochrome-Chromogenic Film XP1 400 has been determined when processed in the recommended chro-mogenic developer. The granularity of the image processed in conventional black and white-developer was also measured for the comparison with the chromogenically developed image. The measurements show that three types of granularity have different variation with respect to-the developed density. The number of developed grain per unit area of both the associated image and the black and white image has been calculated by Selwyn Equation. The calculations indicated that the associated image has lower granularity and more number of developed grain per unit area than the black and white image does. The photomicrographs verify the results. The explanation has been given using the function of DIR coupler existed in the coating layer. The model of the development of the silver halide grain with or without DIR coupler in the layer has been suggested in order to describe the contribution of DIR coupler in the process of developing.

Using AgBr single crystal and cyanine dyes as substrate and spectral sensitizers respectively, the photocurrent pf AgBr was investigated in this paper. It was shown that the photo-induced absorption band can be observed when AgBr was irradiated in its intrinsic absorption range. The crystal presents self-sensitized photoconductivity in its nonintrinsic absorption band when it was exposed to the light in the induced absorption band. Both cathodic and anodic photocurrent of AgBr were sensitized by adsorbed cyanine dyes, therefore, the observed photo-current may include the self-sensitized photocurrent. On the basis of our experiments, a criterion for the sensitizing (or desensitizing) ability of cyanine dyes,
S
D
, was proposed. It may be more comprehensive than other known criteria. By means of the
S
D
-λ curves obtained, a prediction on the ability of spectral sensitization of dyes can be made. A set of practical dyes and their combinations were analysed with the
S
D
criterion in this work.

The rate constants for excimer formation and dissociation were determined as a function of temperature. These in turn resulted in the data of activation energy

The fundamental model of the latent image formation by means of Monte Carlo type of computer simulation technique was used for examining the influences of oxygen and moisture on the latent image formation. The simulated results showed that oxygen and moisture could be considered as two mutually independent factors and played different roles in the process of latent image formation. The oxygen molecule adsorbed on the surface of grains can capture a photoelectron to form a superoxide radical, which may be restored by a bromine atom, instead of a water molecule. Therefore, the existence of oxygen will cause a loss of photoelectrons. Differing from oxygen, the water molecules inhibit the formation and the growth of a concentration speck because of their polarization to silver clusters, thus causing various silver clusters to have a decrease in competence for photoelectrons.

The fluorescence spectra of 8-acryloxyqulnoline (AQ) and 8-methacryloxyquinoline (MAQ), and their polymers in dimethylformamide were recorded. It was found that the fluorescence intensity of these monomers are weaker than that of their corresponding polymers. Due to the electron donor moiety of quinolyl and electron acceptor moiety of acrylic double bond exist in the same molecule, the "structural self-quenching effect" of these monomers would be suggested. These monomers could be polymerized easily under the irradiation of ultraviolet radiation.

The cis-trans isomerization of stilbene photosensitized by perylene is studied. The photo-sensitization is found involving electron transfer from singlet excited state of perylene to stilbene. Applied magnetic field (1.5?10

Zn-doped iron oxide electrodes that exhibit
n
-type and
p
-type photoresponses simultaneously at certain potential interval were prepared. Transformation of n-type photoresponse at more positive potential to
p
-type photoresponse at more negative potential was showed. The photo-voltage waveforms at different potentials were explicitly measured. It was found that the waveforms at intermediate potentials are linear pile of typical n-type and p-type waveforms. A model based on the existence of multiphase both on the surface and in the bulk of the electrode was advanced.
