It was found that exciplex can be formed between singlet excited state of 9-vinyl anthracene and p-N, N-dimethylamino styrene in various solvents. Exciplex emission Wavelength red shifts and fluorescence quantum yield Φ
e
of exciplex decrease with the increase of the polarity of solvents. The relative yield of photodimerization reduces with Φ
e
. Exciplex intermediate mechanism was suggested for the photodimerization between 9-vinyl anthracene and p-N, N-dimethylamino styrene.

The mechanism of adsorption/desorption of molecular oxygen on/from anatase surface with UV irradiation was studied using the technique of vacuum-mass-spectroscopy. After photo-assisted adsorption of oxygen the anatase surface became active. After the desorption. of O

-
(the adsorption state of molecular oxygen on anatase surface) in the form of molecular oxygen from anatase surface under vacuum (1.33×10

Pa) with UV irradiation the active surface could adsorb molecular oxygen in oxygen atmosphere without UV irradiation and the adsorption quantity of O

with UV irradiation. If the energy of UV is greater than the energy gap of anatase (2.9 eV) the desorption of O

will occur. The adsorption quantity of O

The fluorescence spectra and lifetimes of monomer, dimer and sandwich pair of 9-methylamhracene have been investigated on silica gel surface. A complex, consisting of dimer, chloroform and activated silica gel under 700℃ in vacuo, has been found. The complex has-its own characteristic excitation and emission spectra and is easily photolyzed under low temperature. When the photodecomposed species of the complex are gradually warmed to room temperature, they are almost completely reversible. Otherwise, the low-temperature photopro-duct of the dimer, the sandwich pair of 9-methylanthracene are completely converted to the monomer, 9-methylanthracene.

The fluorescence spectra of N, N’-bis-β-naphthylmethyl-piperazine (DMNP) in benzene solution mixed with acetonitrile have been determined. When the acetonitrile concentration is less than 5mol·dm
-3
, the Stern-Volmer plot is linear. This can be explained by specific interaction between acetonitrile and the DMNP exciplex. With the increasing of acetonitrile concentration the quenching and red shift in emission maxima of DMNP intramolecular exciplex accompanied by the appearance of intramolecular excimer formation can be found to be related to the polarity of the system. The mechanism for the formation of excited state complex of DMNP has been proposed.

Hypocrellin A sensitized photooxygenation of 6-hydroxy-l,4-cyclooctadiene, 6-methoxy-1,4-cyclooctadiene, in methanol and 6-trimethylsiloxy-l,4-cyclooctadiene in 1,1,1-trichloroetha-ne stereoselectively got cis-5,8-disubstituted-l,3-cyclooctadiene and trans-5,6-disubstituted-l,3-cyclooctadiene respectively due to the stable conformation of starting material molecules in the ground state. Therefore a convenient simultaneous synthetic entry into cis-5,8-disubstituted-l,3-cyclooctadiene and trans-5,6-disubstituted-l,3-cydooctadiene has been introduced.

The doping effects of Pb
2+
on electric and photographic properties of iodobromide emulsion microcrystals were investigated in this paper. The technique of dielectric loss, microwave photoconductivity and electron microscope were used to determine the ionic conductivity, photoconductivity and the size of microcrystals of the emulsion doped respectively. The results indicate that Pb
2+
-doping causes the decrease of photographic sensitivity, the increase of fog and a great decrease of photoconductivity, but the size of crystals and ionic conductivity are shown to be changed only a bit.The change of sensitivity properties of the emulsion doped can probably be explained by the following two reasons: (1) Pb
2+
ions act as deep traps, greatly decreasing photoconductivity of the emulsion microcrystals. (2) Pb
2+
(or PbBr2) functions as a recombination center and catalyze the development, increasing fog formation.

A series of different tabular silver halide crystals with various distribution of iodide ions were prepared. Their sub-micro-structure analyses and semi-quantitative distribution of iodide ions in the microareas of a crystals were determined by the combination of scanning trans-inissive electron microscope (STEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS). The dielectric losses, Dember effect, HIRF and LIRF of tabular silver halide crystals with different structure were examined. The results showed that the ionic conductivity of the microcrystals, the effects of HIRF and LIRF, the photovoltage produced by Dember effect are different with different distribution of iodide ions. These results have a good corresponding relation with the photographic properties of the four kinds of emulsions.

The copolymerization of a light stabilizer, 3,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidinyl-methacrylate (MTMP), onto the surface of polypropylene film by ultraviolet radiation in the presence of benzophenone (BP) or di-tertiary butyl peroxide has been studied. The influence of various factors on the copolymerization was examined. The surface morphology and photostability of grafted polypropylene have taken apparent changes, the wettability has a slight increase.
