The electrochemical method for measuring rate constants of chemical reaction following electrochemical reaction (EC-reaction) was discussed. The deamination rate constants of oxidized color developing agent CD-2 in the pH range bfetween 1.85 and 12.5 were measured. In acid soulution (pH<5) log k
1
decreases with increasing pH. In alkaline solution (pH>7) log kr increases with increasing pH. In neutral or weak acid solution (pH 5-7) the deamination rate constant is nearly pH independent. The mechanism of the deamination reaction was discussed.

In this paper, it was found that the He-Ne laser can promote the anode oxidation and increase the rising rate of peak current of malachite green but decrease the rising rate of leuco-malachite green. There is a linear relationship between the solvent polarity parameter π
*
and oxidation potential Eox
2
or the λ
max
of the UV/VIS spectra of malachite green. In DMSO, a "hole-burning" phenomenon was observed in the spectrum of malachite green when it was-oxidized. Some "laser induced after effect" was observed.

The influence of ferric chloride (FeCl
3
) on photooxidative degradation of polypropylene (PP) has been studied by IR and UV spectrometric methods. Experimental results showed that FeCl
3
markedly accelerates photooxidation of PP, but the accelerating effect does not depend linearly on the contents of FeCl
3
in PP and there exists a maximum accelerating effect at a certain FeCl
3
content (Under our experimental conditions FeCl
3
shows the maximum accelerating effect when its content is 0.5%). It was also shown that the action of FeCl
3
possibly involves several mechanisms such as initiation of photooxidation of PP by free radicals produced in photolysis of FeCl
3
, catalytic decomposition of hydroperoxide by FeCl
3
, and light screening effect. On the basis of possible mechanisms of FeCl
3
action an explanation for the phenomenon of maximum accelerating effect of FeCl
3
was given.

According to Frack-Condon principle, the fluorescence and the difference between ground state and the first excited singlet state in bond order, dipole moment, total π electronic energy of benzene, naphthalene, anthracene, and their derivatives have been studied with PPP-SC(β, γ)-CI method on IBM-PC microcomputer. It is found that there are good correlated relationship between fluorescence maxima v

A photographic film can be regarded as an information transmission channel. In this case, input is the optical image and output is the photographic image. Although the image information is continuative and should be treated as a continuous information channel, it can be simplified to a discrete channel and treated by a shrinkaging quasi-noiseless channel model due to the existance of graininess in photographic materials. In this paper, the channel capacity of color photographic materials was studied using the concept of muti-layer Shannon's entropy and parallel information channels, and a calculating formula was derived. The Color Infrared Aero Negative Film Typa 1821 was selected as the sample. A set of measurement and calculation programmes on the PDS microdensitometer-computer system were developed.

The effect of counterions on the J-aggregai ion of an anionic cyanine dye, 4, 5, 4', 5'-dibenzo-9-ethyl-3, 3'-bis-(3-sulfopropyl)-thiacarbocyanine (1), in dilute aqueous solutions at room temperature was studied. Absorption spectra indicated that the counterions were not incorporated in the planar dye-ion stacks. Counterion activity measurements for dye I in solutions on adding simple metal ion salts resulted in that the dye-ion stacks with the surrounding counterions bound nearby behaved nearly as a salt-like "totality". The spectra also showed that, for the-added metal ion salts, the minimum Counterion concentrations necessary for initiating J-ag-gregation of dye I in dilute solutions of constant dye concentration depends mainly on the charge of the counterions, being much more efficient for the high velent ones. The effect of the nature-of the counterions was not significant.

The photo-orosslinking reactions of 4-iodoterphenyl with several aromatic compounds have been described. 5 polyaryl compounds were synthesized meanwhile. Their structures were confirmed by IR, NMR, MS, and elemental analysis. Their UV spectrum, FL spectrum have been studied. The reaction mechanism has been postulated.

In this paper the transient behaviors of n-InP in Fe

solution are studied using pulsed light technique. The effects of load resistance and Fe
2+
concentration on the response are observed. From the peak position of the response it can be regarded that the electrode is in the pseudo-stable state at the peak because the production and the separation of photo- indused carriers are very fast. The peak current increases with decreasing load resistance and increasing the concentration of ferrous ion. It agrees with the output characteristic of general cell. The decay process of the response can be explained by a RC equivalent circuit and follows the law of dual-exponential.The time constants increase linearly with increasing the load resistance. From the slope of the lines the capacities of the space charge layer and the surface states can be calculated. In-creaing the concentration of ferrous ion decrease the time constants.

In this work, the sensitized photooxidation of three cholestenes (1-3) in several solventswas studied by using sensitizers of lumiflavin (LF) and 9, 10-dicyanoanthracene (DCA). This reaction provided a convenient and practical method of synthesizing 5- or 7-substituted choles-tene derivatives. It was found that LF-sensitized photooxidation of cholesterol 1 in benzene ledto the formation of 3β-hydroxy-cholest-5-en-7-one (Ic, 40%). The influence of sensitizers andsolvents upon the photochemical synthetic reaction was also discussed.

A new photo-galvano-voltaic cell, which consisted of TPP-SnO

photovoltaic cell on one side and a erythrosin-SnO

photogalvanic cell on the other side of a transparent conducting glass, was reported. It was found that as high as 1350 mV photopotential was produced by this dual-photon absorption system under irradiation and this cell might offer a new approach to make cyclic water photodecomposition.
