The copolymerization of 2-vinylnaphthalene with fumaronitrile takes place under the irradiation of 365 nm to produce 1:1 alternating copolymer.The initiation mechanism was studied.The excited complex is formed from the excitation of the charge-transfer complex of the comonomers and the local excitation of 2-vinylnaphthalene and then collapses to 1,4-bira dical which will initiate the polymerization.

The photoprotecting action of combination of GW-540 (tri-1,2,2,6,6-penta-methyl-4-piperidinyl phosphite) and two UV absorbers (UV-531,UV-327) for polypropylene was studied by IR.,UV-spectrum,SEM.The results showed that the combination of GW-540 and UV-531 possess a good photoprotecting effectiveness,appears strong synergism,and the combination of GW-540 and UV-327 appears a weak antagonism.The results of UV-spectrum showed that GW-540 can protect both UV-531 and UV-327 against photolysis.The results of SEM showed that the more non-uniform dispersion of UV-327 in polypropylene matrix had been formed when GW-540 was added in.The mechanisms of synergism (GW-540——UV-531) and antagonism (GW-540——UV327) were proposed.

thin film electrodes and the interfaces between thin films and Ti substrates were investigated after annealing in N

atmosphere containing different content of O

by X-ray Electron Spectroscopy.It was found that the oxides such as CdO,SeO

,TeO

were formed on the surfaces of both thin films and TiO
2
was formed on Ti substrate surfaces which contact with thin films.Auger Electron Spectroscopy were used for depth analysis.The results showed that there were differences in degree and in thickness for oxides formation.The influencing factors on photoelectr ochemical behaviour of the thin film electrodes were discussed.

The synergistic effect of bisfunctional hindered amine Tinuvin-144 [2-(4’-hydroxyl-3’5’-bis-tert-butyl) benzyl-2-n-butyl malonate bis-penta-mnhyl piperidinyl] and UV-absorbers (UV-531, UV-327

) have been examined by IR,UV-spectra,ESR,and TLC for the light stabilization of polypropylene (PP).The results show that the combination of Tinuvin-144 and UV-531 or UV-327 appears a synergistic effect,and Tinupin-144 and the UV absorbers can be protected each other against photolysis of them.In addition,the results also show that there are not chemical reaction accelerating loss of additives between hindered amine and absorbers within induction period.The mechanism of synergistic action has been proposed.

The effects of halide and mercapto-compound on the redox reaction between silver and Fe (Ⅲ) EDTA were studied with silver rotating disk electrode under constant current.It was found when halide was added in the oxidising solution,the reaction rate in the presence of iodide is much faster than that in the presence of bromide.If there was only chloride in Fe (Ⅲ) EDTA oxidising solution,the reaction can hardly proceed.It was shown that the rate of the redox reaction decreases with increasing pH.Some mercapto-compounds accelerate the reaction.This may be due to the formation of complex between mercaptocompound and silver halide.The mechanism of the accelerating effect of the mercapto-compound was discussed.In the presence of certain amount of bromide the reaction rate increases with increasing Fe (Ⅲ) EDTA concentration.When the concentration of Fe (Ⅲ) EDTA exceeds 0.1 mol,the relation between reaction rate and the concentration of Fe (Ⅲ) EDTA is no longer linear.

In this work the singlet oxygen quenching by a series of transition metal complexes was studied.The results showed that the ability of singlet oxygen quenching mainly related to the configuration geometry of the complex molecules.The complexes which have coordinating atoms arranged in a square-planar geometry have high ability for quenching singlet oxygen,because the singlet oxygen molecules easily approach to the center metal atoms from above or below the tetragon and react with them.Contrary,the complexes which have coordinating atoms arranged in a tetrahedron geometry have weak ability for quenching singlet oxygen.

The states of aggregation of 3,3’-di-(y-sulfoporopyl)-9-ethyl-4,5,4’,5’-dibenzo-thiacarbo-cyanine (I) in DMF-H
2
O (15%DMF,v/v) solutions as well as on AgBr surface were studied by absorption and reflection spectra at room temperature.Adsorption heats of dye I on AgBr are obtioned calorimetrically from two solution of dye I in different aggregation states at 25±0.0001℃.The ΔH values (in kJ/mol dye) obtained are quite different.However,the reflection spectra and the isotherms at 25℃ showed almost the same adsorption state of dye I on AgBr.These results may give some information on the adsorption of dye I on AgBr surface.

Photooxidation of leucobase of malachite green (LMG) in acetonitrile was studied.The photochemical reaction rate depends linearly on the square root of the light intensity.This shows that the reaction is not a simple photolysis.When naphthalene was added into the solution,fluorescence and phosphorescence of LMG were quenched and the photochemical reaction rate was increased.It is concluded that singlet LMG plays an important role in the photochemical reaction.

The absorption and fluorescence spectra of 2,2’-naphthyl in various solvents were investigated.In dimethyl sulfoxide-water (DMSO-H

O) and ethylene glycol-water (EG-H

O) solvent mixtures (aggregating solvents) the dimer formation of 2,2’-binaphthyl was observed,while in organic solvents no excimer or dimer was detected even at high concentration.Dimer formation in aggregating solvents is attributed to the aggregation of 2,2’-binaphthyl,driven by hydrophobic interaction.Excitation energy migration inside aggregates also plays an important role in the dimer formation.The addition of cyclodextrin to the solution of 2,2’-naphthyl in aggregating solvents results in formation of inclusion complex and destruction of aggregates.
