In this paper, it was found that, when bromide is present in the solution of Fe(Ⅲ)-com-plexes, it makes a slower redox reaction between Fe(Ⅲ)-complexes and metallic silver. If iodide is present instead, the same reaction will be accelerated. The additivity principle for electric current and the solubility product of AgX may account for the acceleration effect of iodide. However, Agl is more difficult to remove completely from the electrode surface than AgBr.When both bromide and iodide are present, the formation rate of AgX on the electrode surface first decreases and then increases with increasing iodide concentration.Due to the lower solubility product of Agl and more negative mixed potential between Fe(Ⅲ)-complex/Fe(Ⅱ)-complex and Ag/AgI, Agl is formed preferably on the surface of the electrode, when it was dipped into the bromide solution containing little iodide.

In this work, several kinds of 4-substituted phenyl azo-5-(8-hydroxyquinoline) compounds have been synthesized. The tautomeric equilibrium between the azo type and the hydrazone type of these compounds in different solvents and different acidity has also been studied. The introduction of an electron withdrawing group will facilitate the hydrazone formation. On the contrary, in the case of introduction of.electron-repulsive substitute no effect can be observed. In addition, it was found that under irradiation the main process of the excited state of these compounds is
azo-cis/trans
isomerization reaction rather than tautomerization.

Relationship between bleaching property nd molecular structure of yellow, magenta and cyan oil soluble dyes for silver-dye-bleach photography were studied. The results showed that dyes with strong electron-withdrawing group, asymmetrical structure and short alkyl chain substituents have better bleaching properties.

The effect of six phenylhydrazides (general formula: R-Ph-NH-NH-COR’) on the photographic characteristics of silver halide emulsion has been studied. The results show that there are relations between the effect of infectious development and the structure of phenylhydrazides.Additionally, the effect and mechanism of contrast-promoting agents (alcohols and amine derivatives) has been investigated in detail. The fact indicates that it can not only eliminate the feed back inhibition effect which is caused by the use of phenylhydrazide alone, but also accelerate the infectious development greatly and enhance the contrast and speed of photographic development when a little amount of contrast-promoting agent is added in PQ developer.Furthermore, the mechanism of infectious development and contrast-promoting action is explained more definitely on the basis of analyzing the reduction rection products and intermediates of phenylhydrazides by means of LC, GC-MS and ESR spectrometry.

In this work, a series of triaryl pyrazoline compounds with different substituted groups have been synthesized. The photophysical behavior of these compounds including quantum yields and lifetime of fluorescence in solvents with different polarities has also been measured. Results indicated that except for the intramolecular conjugated charge transfer, there is intramolecular non-conjugated electron transfer existing in the excited state of these compounds. The fluorescence quenching of pyrylium salt has also been studied. The results obtained were discussed briefly.

The photooxidation of 5-nitroacenaphthene plays an important role in the development-free vapor photolithography. The major oxidation products have been analysed by means of FT-1R, H-NMR, HPLC-MS.The results were compared with that of anthenic samples synthesized in our laboratory. It was shown that the majorphotooxidation products of 5-nitroacenaphthene are 5-nitroaoenaphthenol, 5-nitroacenaphthenone and 5-nitroacenaphthylene.

Based on the study of the latent image distribution and Sabatier effect of iodide uniformly distributed emulsions and core-shell emulsions, a machanism of Sabatier effect was proposed. The surface latent image centers produced during the first exposure became hole trapping centers after adsorbing anions of developer and were bleached during the second exposure, so that a reverse image was formed. It was indicated that for a good Sabatier emulsion it should contain enough surface sensitivity centers as well as enough internal sensitivity centers, and they should be well matched. This machanism can be used to explain several results of Sabatier effect.

The photoinduced redox reaction between hypocrellin A and reduced glutathione (GluSH) was investigated.Hypocrellin A, a derivative of 3, 10-dihydroxy-4, 9-perylenequinone, undergoes light-induced one-electron reduction in the presence of GluSH as electron donor.Depending on the PH of the medium the product can be semiquinone radical or dihydrohypoc-rellin A.The quantum yield of one-electron reduction of hypocrellin A increased with increasing pH.The hypocrellin A sensitized oxidation of GluSH proceeds through the mixed mechanism of Foote Type Ⅰ and Type Ⅱ in aerated solution, and the hydroxy radical generated through Fenton reaction was also detected by ESR.Hypocrellin A sensitized oxidation of GluSH in aerated lipsome solution follows the Foote Type Ⅱ mechanism, which was verified by dynamic measurements.

Two new techniques of area-selective metal deposition on dieletric surface by means of copper physical development were developed. One of them is to make the area with normal silver image electrically conductive, and the other is to make the area without silver image electrically conductive. The techniques can be used in the manufacture of printed circuit board, lithographic printing plates, broad parallel cables and bright copper mirror on dielectrics. Some factors that influence copper physical development were discussed.
