Trace metals in photographic gelatin have various enects on the properties of silverhalide emulsion. It is important to study their chemical forms and the total contents in photographic gelatins in order to improve the quality of emulsion or make the photographic gelatins with good performance. In this present paper,the feature of the combination of gel-filtration and flame atomic absorption spectrometry for studying the chemical forms of metals in photographic gelatins was shown. The gelatin-calcium was studied as a typical example, Furthermore,a method that the gelatin-calcium is determined directly without digestoin or hydrolysis was developed.

A film medium contahing thiazole azo dye and nitrocelldose on a glass substrate have been made by solvent-coated method and usedin optical disk system. A novel amphiphilic zinc phthalocyanine(TAZnPc)was syntesized.Its behavior toward aggregation in different solvents was studied.Monolayers of pure TAZnPc and a 1:10 mixture of TAZnPc with 1-hexadecane were spread on water from ether solution andtransferred onto CaF
2
slides. It is indicated that the mixed LB film is more stable than theLB film of pure TAZnPc. Multilayers were also built up on these substrates. Polarized UVabsorption spectra of the mixed LB films together with the molecule area in condensed mixedmonolayer lead to the conclusion that the phthalocyanine macroring is lying nearly parallel tothe substrate surface.

The fluorescence intensity and maximum wavelength of 4-dimethylaminochalcone(DMAC)in aqueous solution are observed to increase with the concentration of sodium deoxycholate (SDOC), a steroidal surfactant,to their maxima and then decrease,while in thesolution of an aliphatic surfactant sedium laurate(NaL),both the parameters increase withincreasing NaL concentration and level off after micelle formation. Although the fluores-cence maximum wavelength of DMAC is shorter in SDOC system than that in NaL system,the fluorescence intensity is much higher in SDOC system. The ultraordinarily high enhancement of DMAC fluorescence in SDOC system is rationalized as being due to the aggregation of rigid SDOC molecule in aqueous solution. The SDOC aggregate provides DMAC with an also rigid microenvironment where the formation of the photoinduced nonemissivebiradical state P. of DMAC is hindered and thus the emission is much strongly enhanced.Before the formation of micelle,SDOC molecule is shown to exist mainly in dimer which forms a sandwich supramolecular complex with DMAC by an association constant of 9 3.2L/mol.

The dependence of the absorption and fluorescence of charge transfer(CT)state of 3-tricyano vinyl-9-methyl-carbazole (TCVMC)on solvent polarity and temperature is reported. Onium salts with non-nucleophilic complex metal halide anions are good phtoto initiators,and have been extensively used in acid-catalyzed semiconductor lithography,Upon UVirradiation of these salts,protonic acid is formed. Measuring quantum yields of acid is veryimportant in order to improve the quality of photoresists. In this work, a new method ofmeasuring quantum yields of acid formed in photolysis of onium salts was described.Theamount of acid produced on irradiation was measured by a non-aqueous photometric methodusing sodium 4-nitrophenoxide as an indicator in acetonitrile standardized with trifluo-romethanesulphonic acid.The results determined have best repetition and higher sensitivitycompared with aqueous base-acid titration. The experimental results have been also discussed.

Two types of vanadyl phthalocyanine(VOPc),sample A and sample B,as near-in-frared(NIR)sensitive carrier generation material(CGM)were prepared and used to coat a function-separated photoreceptor with butadiene derivative which was used for carrier transport material(CTM).The electrophotographic properties of the photoreceptors were measured at 780 nm;and the differences of X-ray powder diffraction,SEM and absorptionspectra were observed betweeen sample A and sample B. In paticularly,effects of particlesize on the photoconductivity were investigated.
