Modified rhodamine 6G molecules (Rh-Al or Rh-Aln)with polymerizable double bonds had been copolymerized with 1,8-naphthalimide derivatives. We report on their photostability in solid film. The photodegradation kinetics of novel laser copolymers based on modified rhodamine 6G and 1,8-naphthalimide has been studied by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. The results show that the rates of the photofading reactions of the novel laser copolymers follow quasi-first-order kinetic process. In copolymers PRNAM(N-ally-rhodamine 19/N-(2-acryloylethoxyl)-1,8-naphthalimide/methyl methacrylate copolymer),naphthalimide moieties are connected to rhodamine moieties at nitrogen atom of rhodamine moiety, and naphthalimide moieties are connected to rhodamine moieties at ester group of rhodamine moiety in copolymers PRNM(ally ester of rhodamine 19/N-(2-acryloylethoxyl)-1,8-naphthalimide/methyl methacrylate copolymer). The photostability of PRNAM is far superior to that of PRNM and PRM(ally ester of rhodamine 19/methyl methacrylate copolymer).

The photodegradation kinetics of cyanine dyes and merocyanine dyes in thin films has been studied by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. Those cyanine dyes holding a positive charge in thin films have relative good photostability comparing with merocyanines in thin films. The relationship between photostability and chemical structure of dyes has been elucidated by SCF-MO-PM3 calculations.

On the base of studying on the adsorption of sensitizing dye and antihalation dyes on silver halide crystals with UV-spectrum, we focused on the effects of antihalation dyes on the formation of J-aggregates of the sensitizing dye and emulsions’ sensitivity. It was found that antihalation dyes had different adsorption on silver halide crystals due to their different structures. The stronger the adsorption of antihalation dyes the more effects on J-aggregates formation of sensitizing dyes.Sensitizing dye could increase emulsions’ sensitivity by being adsorbed on silver halide crystals and forming J-aggregates,so those antihalation dyes with less adsorption have less effect on the spectral sensitivity, while antihalation dyes with stronger adsorption could inhibit or destroy the spectral sensitivity, especially when they were added before sensitizing dye.A good antihalation dye was one that had weak adsorption on silver chloride crystals.

Adsorption of 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-1,3,3a,7-teraazaindene(TAI)on a silver surface was investigated by surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS).In the present system,TAI molecule is chemisorbed on the surface of silver electrode. The N atom of TAI plays the principal role of adsorption on the silver electrode. It is concluded that TAI molecule is adsorbed on the silver electrode by edged-on mode.Although the number of ORC does not affect the frequencies of vibration,it obviously affects the intensities of SERS.

The photodegradation kinetics of novel ferrocenyl azo dye and corresponding azo dye solution has been studied by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. The results show that the fading process follows zero order kinetics in methanol. The ferrocenyl azo dye has relative good photostability compared with the azo dye.The results suggest that the intramolecular triplet-triplet energy transfer from azo chromophore to ferrocenyl chromophore is very efficient, which leads to increase in the photostability of the dye.

The performances of a single layered photoreceptor which is a polymer matrix doped with DMTNF,DEH and Y-TiOPc or H2Pc were studied. The results showed that xerographic quantum efficiency and sensitivity are a strongly dependent on CGM concentration.Xerographic quantum efficiency and sensitivity for positive charging increased with CGM concentration, while that for negative charging decreased with CGM concentration. Two kinds of photoreceptors show high sensitivity at near infrared wavelength range, suitable LD imaging.Y-TiOPc ohotoreceptor was most sensitive at 780 nm and half decay exposures were 0.588 μJ/cm2 and 0.828 μJ/cm2 for negative and positive charging,respectively.H2Pc ohotoreceptor for negative charging was most sensitive at 820 nm and half decay exposures were 1.97 μJ/cm2,and that for positive charging at 800 nm and 1.50 μJ/cm2,respectively.

In the imaging system of silver halide, photon generated positive holes have been considered as a kind of species which play a negative role to cause inefficiency of latent image formation via recombination with electrons, regressive reaction with silver clusters and so on. Recently, some kind of novel sensitization technique that might be called as a conversion of hole to electron has been developed and are greatly interested in. So far 3 kinds of compounds have been found to act as a chemical converter. These are: 1) silver dimmer (Ag2); 2) compounds of carboxylic acids including formic acid; 3)FED compounds, i.e fragmentable two electron donors. Each of these compunds possesses two elementary functions: trapping hole and releasing an extra electron through conversion when it is adsorbed or introduced into silver halide crystals. In this paper, features, mechanism and effect etc. of these converters are reviewed.
