By use of the double-jet apparatus controlled by a microcomputer, cubo-octahedral AgBr grain emulsions in which formate ions were doped at subsurface of AgBr microcrystals, were prepared. Ag nanoparticle-PVA composite systems were prepared by three methods. In the heating-induced reduction, Ag nanoparticles formed had a diameter of 15 nm, and showed a broad surface plasmon resonance absorption band at λ
max
420 nm. In the ambient reduction by NaBH
4
, the surface plasmon resonance absorption of Ag nanoparticles blue-shifted to 409 nm, and became narrower. The average diameter of Ag nanoparticles produced was 8.7 nm. When the reduction process was carried out at low temperature (0 ℃), the absorption of Ag nanoparticles further blue-shifted to 397 nm, and 3.5 nm Ag nanoparticles were obtained. Smooth, transparent and uniform thin films were fabricated by spin-coating the Ag nanoparticle-PVA composite systems on substrates. This approach is suited for preparation of uniform multilayer films of varied thicknesses and spectroscopic properties. When Ag-PVA composite system and Ti(O
n
Bu)
4
ethanolic solution were alternatively spin-coated on substrate, Ag-PVA/TiO
2
composite films were obtained. UV-Visible spectra showed a regular film growth and enhancement of film absorption with increasing the number of Ag-PVA layers. In contrast, no significant effect of TiO
2
layers was observed on the absorption spectrum of film. Such organic/inorganic nanostructured multilayer films may be promising in optical, electronic, and catalytic applications.

The epoxy acrylate resins were UV cured under different atmospheres (air and N
2
) and characterized with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy at two different take-off angles, namely 60° and 90°. The results obtained indicate that different curing environments result in the change of surface energy of the films. Compared with the film cured in the air, the binding energies of C
1s and O
1s on the surface of the film cured in N
2
move to lower ones. The content of C—C/C—H is higher than that cured in the air, whereas the contents of CO and C—O are lower in both cases. As for the film cured in the air, the content of the single-bond oxygen with high binding energy is higher than that cured in N
2
. Both the binding energy of C
1s and O
1s and the atomic contents are different between the surface and substrate interface of the films. For example, the binding energy of C
1s on the surface and glass interface of the film cured in N
2
are 286.62 eV and 287.48 eV, respectively. Besides, the atomic concentration in the films presents gradient distribution from the most external surface toward the bulk. The contents of CO and C—O increase from surface to bulk, and the content of C—C/C—H decreases from surface to bulk, which is caused by the migration of the compositions during the curing process.

A series of triazine derivatives (1a—1e) were synthesized in moderate yields as photoacid generators. All novel compounds synthesized were characterized with

H NMR and MS, and these data were found in good agreement with expected structures. Quantum yields of decomposition and acid formation of compound 1e in acetonitrile in different concentrations were measured when exposed at 405 and 365 nm. It was found that Quantum yields are strongly dependent on the wavelengths of light, rather than on their concentrations in acetonitrile. Decomposition and acid formation in acetonitrile of PAG 1e are more efficient at 405 nm than at 365 nm.

AgI nanoclusters were successfully prepared by using PAMAM dendrimers as templates in water system.
