Abstract: The quenching of pyrene fluorescence by nucleic acid bases solution wasstudied.Fluorescence of pyrene is strongly quenched by pyrimidines, but slightly bypurines. The analysis of fluorescence quenching processes shows that quenching by purinesis static mechanism and quenching by pyrimidines is dynamic one. These resalts indicatethat the π-π electron interaction between pyrene and nucleic acid bases exists and thisinteraction may probably lead to the formation of non-emission exciplex between excitedpyrene and pyrimidine and ground state complex between pyrene and purines.
