Abstract: The fluorescence of J-aggregate of two non-symmetric cyanine dyes adsorbed on the AgBrI emulsion grains was investigated. An inverse relationship is found between the relative quantum yield of the J-aggregate fluorescence of the dyes and the relative quantum efficiency of spectral sensitization. The rate constants of electron transfer from dyes to silver halide grains were obtained by measuring fluorescence lifetime. The experimental results support the electron-transfer mechanism of spectral sensitization and reveal its kinetics process.
