Abstract: Eu-doped Y2O3-Al2O3-SiO2 fluorescent glasses were prepared by conventional melting method. The effect of starting compositions on the glass-forming ability and the fluorescent properties of the glasses were studied. It was found that, the content of SiO2 affected the glass-forming ability significantly, and for a melting temperature of 1500 ℃ and a fixed Y/Al molar ratio of 3/5,pure glass could be obtained with a SiO2 content of 52-68%(mol).Under an excitation at 395 nm,the glasses showed two strong emission peaks at 588 nm and 614 nm,respectively. The intensities of the emission peaks varied with the concentrations of Eu3+,and reached the maximum with a Eu3+ concentration of 1.5%(mol).
