Abstract: In this paper, the photophysical properties of the complex of pyrenetetrasulfonic acid tetrasodium salt (PyTS) and methylviologen (MV2+) in water have been studied using absorption titration and time resolved transient absorption spectra. The stoichiometry of PyTS/MV2+ complex is 1:1 when PyTS was titrated by MV2+ ;and the same result we got when MV2+ was titrated by PyTS. The association constant of the PyTS/MV2+ is 2.4×106 mol-1·L. In the PyTS/MV2+ dimer, there is an electron transfer process from PyTS to MV2+ when it was excited by laser. From these results, we proposed the dynamic scheme of the PyTS/MV2+ dimer, however, some of processes cannot be determined owing to pulse duration limited of the used laser. Some ultrafast experiments are undergoing, especially femtosecond experiment.
