Abstract: The fluorescence spectra of 8-acryloxyqulnoline (AQ) and 8-methacryloxyquinoline (MAQ), and their polymers in dimethylformamide were recorded. It was found that the fluorescence intensity of these monomers are weaker than that of their corresponding polymers. Due to the electron donor moiety of quinolyl and electron acceptor moiety of acrylic double bond exist in the same molecule, the "structural self-quenching effect" of these monomers would be suggested. These monomers could be polymerized easily under the irradiation of ultraviolet radiation.
