Abstract: Visible photoinitiation systems composed of squarylium cyanine dye and iodonium salt were studied in this work. Such systems possess a good thermostability and high photochemical activity. Upon irradiation, the electron transfer reaction occurs between excited dye and iodonium, leading to photobleaching of squarylium cyanine dye and cleavage of iodonium to generate active radical. The results obtained indicated that squarylium cyanine dye and iodonium salt combination can serve as a suitable visible photoinitiation system for photocrosslinking of acrylates.
