Abstract: Photo reaction of dinitropyrenes in simulated atmospheric conditions was studied. The photochemical reaction rate was found to be of the second order.Different reactionrates correspond to different dinitropyrene isomers and to different carrier gases with possibly the competition of the quenching and oxidation by oxygen. The photoreaction productswere identified as pyrenequinone,multi-,and mono-nitrohydroxypyrenes,dipyrenone etc.The mutagenicity of photochemical reaction products is lower than that of the original dini-tropyrenes.

Key words: dinitropyrene isomers, photochemical reaction, atmospheric condition To whom correspondence should be addressed.
