Abstract: A mild and effective method is reported for the selective growth of Ag nanowires within anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) template, which involved fabricating AgBr nanowires, reducing the exposed AgBr nanowires into Ag nanowires and removing the unexposed AgBr nanowires. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) images demonstrated that Ag nanowires formed and occupied the pre-exposed pores, while most of the pores over unexposed areas kept empty.Furthermore, the morphology of Ag nanowires was twisty and surface rough, and the selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern disclosed a polycrystalline nature of silver wire. The factors affecting the selective growth of Ag nanowires have been preliminarily presented.
