Abstract: This paper presents the results of Cr(Ⅵ) adsorption and photocatalytic reduction in CdS dispersion. CdS exhibits quite high adsorption and photocatalytic reduction activities. Treatment of CdS in the air under 300℃ or less resulted in the promotion of activities for Cr(Ⅵ) adsorption and photocatalytic reduction. The adsorption of Cr(Ⅵ) on the untreated CdS catalyst surface was near monolayer, while the adsorption on the treated CdS catalyst surface was multilayer. Comparative study of adsorption and photocatalytic reaction indicated that adsorption step is rate-control step of whole reaction. During Cr(Ⅵ) reduction, photocorrosion was observed.
