Abstract: The mechanism of adsorption/desorption of molecular oxygen on/from anatase surface with UV irradiation was studied using the technique of vacuum-mass-spectroscopy. After photo-assisted adsorption of oxygen the anatase surface became active. After the desorption. of O2- (the adsorption state of molecular oxygen on anatase surface) in the form of molecular oxygen from anatase surface under vacuum (1.33×10-3 Pa) with UV irradiation the active surface could adsorb molecular oxygen in oxygen atmosphere without UV irradiation and the adsorption quantity of O2-, was greater tha that of O2- with UV irradiation. If the energy of UV is greater than the energy gap of anatase (2.9 eV) the desorption of O2- will occur. The adsorption quantity of O2- is in proportion to the quantity of surface hydroxyl.
