Abstract: Photocatalytic degradation of surfactant sodium dodecyl benzenesulfonate(DBS) and organic pigment Light Fast Scarlet BBN(BBN) was investigated using TiO2 as photocatalyst in aqueous solution under ultraviolet light irradiation.Degradation rate and the interaction mechanism of DBS and BBN were discussed. The results show that the degradation of the bicomponents depends on pH and substrate concentraction obviously. The degradation rate of DBS was faster in alkaline medium, but the discoloration rate of BBN was faster in acidic medium. The adsorption of BBN and DBS by TiO2 in acid medium was better than inalkaline medium or in neutral condition. In the system of BBN/DBS,the degradation rate of BBN was slightly decreased by adding DBS.When the concentration of DBS was 0.42 g/L,the degradation rate of BBN was the fastest;while the concentration of DBS was 0.042 g/L,the degradation was slightly fast;when the concentration of DBS was 2.1 g/L,the degradation was the lowest.DBS was degradated in the course of BBN degradation, and the degradation rate of DBS was slightly increased by adding DBS.
