Abstract: A cationic surfactant with an azobenzene group was prepared, which is AZO. Its molecule structure was identified by 1HNMR. The surface properties and foam stability were measured before and after UV light irritation. The photoisomerization of the azo-benzene group happened under the UV irradiation. After the UV irradiation, the Гmax values decreased, the values of cmc and γcmc increased and the foam stability decreased. The results showed that the surface properties and the foam stability of the surfactant can be controlled using the different light irradiation.
