Abstract: Ultraviolet absorption spectra, probe(pyrene) fluorescence emission spectra, and self-fluorescence emission spectra of aqueous solution of sodium N-(α-alkylphenoxy)-tetradecanoyltaurate(SAPTT) were investigated. It indicated that both probe(pyrene) fluorescence emission spectra method and self-fluorescence emission spectra method could be used to determine the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of sodium N-(α-alkylphenoxy)-tetradecanoyltaurate.The self-fluorescence emission spectra method was compared with probe(pyrene) fluorescence emission spectra method and Wilhelmy-plate(surface tension) method, and its sensitivity and accuracy was evident.

Key words: surfactant, sodium N-(α-alkylphenoxy)-tetradecanoyltaurate, self-fluorescence emission spectra, probe fluorescence emission spectra, critical micelle concentration
