Abstract: The fluorescence spectra and lifetimes of monomer, dimer and sandwich pair of 9-methylamhracene have been investigated on silica gel surface. A complex, consisting of dimer, chloroform and activated silica gel under 700℃ in vacuo, has been found. The complex has-its own characteristic excitation and emission spectra and is easily photolyzed under low temperature. When the photodecomposed species of the complex are gradually warmed to room temperature, they are almost completely reversible. Otherwise, the low-temperature photopro-duct of the dimer, the sandwich pair of 9-methylanthracene are completely converted to the monomer, 9-methylanthracene.
