Abstract: In this paper,a cyanine dye as recording materials was spin coated with different mixed solvents onto glass substrate to form thin films. The effect of mixed solvents on the optical properties, stability and surface topographies of the films were studied by means of Vis-NIR spectra of absorption and reflection of the films,FT-IR spectra,AFM methods and so on.It was found that the mixed solvents could greatly affect the optical properties and surface topographies of dye films, and the best mixture volume ratio between two solvents exsits, dye films fabricated with mixed solvent in such ratio show higher quality optical properties and more flatter morphologies than those with pure solvent, respectively. Results of Atomic Force Microscopy(AFM)observations and optical properties measurements indicate that the best mixture volume ratio for diacetone alcohol and chloroform mixed solvent is 5:5,while for the mixed solvent of tetrafluoro propanol and chloroform is 7:3.
