Abstract: In this paper Triton X-100 nonionic micelle is used to solubilize hypocrellin B(HB)and its brominated products(5-Br-HB and 5,8-diBr-HB).It is found that micelle possess protective effects on ground and excited states of HB:(1)enhancing the ρKa value of ground state;(2)increasing the yields of fluorescence and active intermediates(O2·-·OH)produced during photosensitization. So it raises the photosensitizing activity of HB. In addition, micelle also possess protective effect on two kinds of brominated HB,and which is higher than that on HB. This leads to their higher yields of active intermediates(O2·-·OH)than HB,which is of great importance in photosensitizing damage.
