Abstract: p-N,N’-dimethylaminobenzonitrile(DDABN)molecules aggregate in water-dioxane mixture when the volume fraction of water is higher than 0.5 and a dual fluorescence emission is observed from DDABN aggregates. The position of the long-wavelength band is nearly the same as that of DDABN monomer in pure dioxane and this emission band is demonstrated to be due to TICT state. The DDABN molecules are shown by absorption spectroscopy to form J-aggregates in water-rich water-dioxane mixture.
