Abstract: The photosensitive system of [hydroxy(toxyloxy)iodo]benzene(HTIB) was studied by absorption spectra, fluorescence quenching and photopolymerization. The photosensitizer coumarin 1 with electron-donating property could extend the absorption of HTIB to near UV.The initiation efficiency of coumarin 1/HTIB system depended on the solvents largely. In DMSO,the polymerization of methyl methacrylate(MMA) could be carried out efficiently. However the photopolymerization was inhibited in acetonitrile. It was ascribed to the complex formed between coumarin 1 and HTIB photolyzed to unreactive species after irradiation in acetonitrile. The results obtained here can afford valuable information for the study of other photosensitive system contained monoaryl iodonium.
