Abstract: The cationic photoinitiator BF4 was synthesized and the photosensitivity in epoxide oligomer was studied. There are two main absorptions above 300 nm (λmax =355 nm and 620 nm) which extend to the visible region, So it can well match with high pressure arc. lamp. The optimized photosensitivity in epoxide is 41.8 mJ/cm2 when irradiated by 365 nm UV ray, which is better than that of other cationic photoinitiators. The best concentration of BF4 in the system of ERL-4221+EPON-812 is 3%-5%. Because of the strong post curing ability, the system of ERL-4221+EPON-812 can obtain complete curing with 1% BF4. BF4 is easier to be synthesized than other cationic photoinitiators,so it will be used widely in the future.
