Abstract: The pH effect of photouptake of O2 on CdS and Pt/CdS was investigated. The resultindicates that there are two types of mechanism for O2 photouptake aqueous dispersions of CdS and Pt/CdS. In acidic condition,O2 photouptake proceeds continuously and canbe described with 1st order rate equation. In basic condition,O2 photouptake ceaises afterhalf an hour irradiation, which is illustrated by following equations: CdS+2O22-+2h+→Cd2++SO42- Cd2++2OH-→Cd(OH)2 Then, the surface of CdS is covered by Cd(OH)2 and the O2 uptake is hindered.
