Abstract: An optical waveguide sensing element was prepared by spin coating a thin film of copper phthalocyanine(CuPc) onto the surface of K+-ion exchanged optical waveguide which was prepared by hot ion-exchanged method, and nitrogen dioxide was detected successfully using this sensing element in optical waveguide gas sensor system. The experimental results showed that this sensing element has reversible response to nitrogen dioxide gas with highly sensitivity and good reproducibility.

Key words: copper phthalocyanine, thin film, optical waveguide gas sensor, nitrogen dioxide
