Abstract: Six different kinds of near infrared absorbing cyanine dye with typical structure in spin coated film have been chosen for studying their spectroscopic properties and the relationship berween structure and stability. Results show that cyanine dye film has much wider absorbing range than the same dye in solution. It has also been found that indolenine series dye exhibit markedly higher stability than other kinds of cyanine dye, and the structure of cyanine dye can greatly affected its photostability. We have succeeded in stabilizing cyanine dye film with two different singlet-oxygen quenchers to an acceptable level. At the same time, it has been indicated that the content of quencher is also an important factor that affects the photostability of dye.
