Abstract: In CD R optical disc, the recording media film should have nice optical properties in order to depress reading noise and increase the reliability when data are processed.Cyanine dyes are one of the most popular recording media. When the cyanine dye was spin coated in this experiment,it was found that the solvents had great influence on the dye film. The observation on the film surface with AFM indicated that the reflectance was closely related to the roughness of film.Dye films were flat and had high reflectance when cholroform, tetrafluoro propanol or diacetone alcohol were used as the solvent, respectively. When the solvent was methanol, many mirco crystals sized 0.3 μm were found in the dye film, which had great scattering effect on the light and resulted in the decrease of the light reflectance.
